16 TV duos we’d totally vote for in the 2016 presidential race

'Gilmore Girls'

With the 2016 presidential race heating up, the two major political parties have declared their tickets. The Republicans have Donald Trump and Mike Pence, while the Democratic party has Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine. Maybe you’re sick of politicians and big dollar businessmen as your only options for President of the United States, though. What then?

That’s when you look to the people you know more than most — the TV characters you hang out with on a weekly basis. Zap2it has gone through our favorite shows to find a list of TV’s best duos that we think would make for a pretty great presidential ticket. Each pairing has it’s ups and downs, but one thing’s for sure — election season would never be the same.

Take a look at Zap2it’s 16 TV presidential tickets for 2016 below and figure out who you’d cast a vote for.

Oswald Cobblepot and Ed Nygma — ‘Gotham’

We know what you’re thinking, these guys are villains. Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) and Ed Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) may not be the most honest guys on “Gotham,” but could run the country with ease. After all, Penguin is a hard-nosed businessman who will do whatever it takes to get the job done, while Nygma is the unassuming secret genius who has no problems getting his hands dirty. Besides, best friends should be running the country.

Dianne Lockhart and Lucca Quinn — ‘The Good Wife’

This may actually be the most qualified duo of the entire list. Not only has Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) run her own law firm, but she was almost nominated to the Illinois Supreme Court. Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) is a former bond attorney going into practice with Diane and while she’s not quite as experienced as her counterpart, she’d be a no-nonsense, get-stuff-done vice president.

Paris Geller and Rory Gilmore — ‘Gilmore Girls’

Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Paris (Liza Wiel) already have governing experience, having been student body president and vice president in high school. On top of that, they’ve always had a very complementary relationship that would work well in politics. Paris would be the one-woman wrecking ball, and Rory would help keep her finger off the nuke button.

Dean and Sam Winchester — ‘Supernatural’

For over a decade, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) have fought every monster in the book. From vampires and werewolves to Nazis and killer clowns, they’ve triumphed. That, along with their inability to stay dead, pretty much qualifies the brothers for any leadership position. Adding the heavenly mojo of Castiel (Mischa Collins) into the mix, President Dean Winchester and Vice President Sam Winchester — come on, you know Dean is the brains behind this operation — would literally make America great again. Heck, they’re even buddies with God. Take that, church and state!

Pops Johnson and Bow Johnson — ‘Black-ish’

When it comes to no nonsense, that describes Pops Johnson (Laurence Fishburne) to a tee. If something is on his mind, he’s going to speak it — even if it’ll hurt your feelings. Sometimes the world needs that kind of honesty. When it doesn’t, Bow (Tracee Ellis Ross) will be there. She’s a surgeon with a hippie side and will help smooth out Pops’ rough edges.

Olivia Benson and Fin Tutuola — ‘Law & Order: SVU’

After working together for so long, Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Fin Tutuola (Ice-T) know each other inside and out. Their passion for justice and doing what’s right is exactly what the country needs and Fin being a video gamer will help them court the younger vote.

Dev Shah and Denise — ‘Masters of None’

It’s 2016 and while Barack Obama added diversity to the White House, there is still progress to be made. With that thought in mind, we present to you Dev Shah and Denise. Not only would Dev shine a light on the plights of the Indian-Americans out there. But having an African American lesbian as his VP running mate would turn the government on its head. She’s got the wisdom needed to keep Dev in check. And, not for nothing, but she’d hold a filibuster like no other.

Jessica Huang and Emery Huang — ‘Fresh off the Boat’

Jessica Huang (Constance Wu) will get the job done, regardless of the circumstances. She’s not necessarily the most likable person on the planet, though. That’s where her son Emery (Forrest Wheeler) comes into play. He’s a smart kid and easy to love. Her approval rating will shoot through the roof!

Carol Peletier and Daryl Dixon — ‘The Walking Dead’

At a glance, Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) is a model citizen who wants nothing but the best for everyone. However, “The Walking Dead” fans know she can switch into cold and detached survivalist at the drop of a hat if need be. She wouldn’t put up with a lot of the nonsense that goes on in the government and with Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) at her side, the two would be unstoppable.

Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister — ‘Game of Thrones’

Let’s face it, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) was literally born to rule, and Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) is the perfect advisor to help her do it. After they undoubtedly conquer Westeros, let’s give them a run at the White House. We think they’d be a perfect mix of magnanimous and maniacal.

Jimmy McGill and Mike Ehrmantraut — ‘Better Call Saul’

better call saul 16 TV duos wed totally vote for in the 2016 presidential race

Let’s be clear here, Saul Goodman would make a horrible Commander in Chief. But, Jimmy McGill — he still has some sense of moral fiber still left in him. And with Mike Ehrmantraut by his side, he can keep his hands clean from whatever political dirty work is needed to be done behind-the-scenes. Dick Cheney’s got nothing on Mike. Add Kim Wexler to the mix as an advisor of some sort, and this team would go far.

Joe West and Harrison Wells — ‘The Flash’

Between Joe West’s (Jesse L. Martin) long history in law enforcement and the genius mind of Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) — let’s go with Season 2 Harry, rather than Season 1’s Eobard — this ticket should be able to solve any problem. Of course, for bigger issues, they’ve got some superhero friends that can help clean up the streets.

Capt. Holt and Sgt. Jeffords — ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’

What better way to balance out Captain Holt’s (Andre Braugher) stoic countenance than with Sgt. Jeffords’ (Terry Crews) bright smile and penchant for speaking in the third person? “Terry loves being VP. Terry can’t wait to break a Senate deadlock.”

Leroy Gibbs and Abby Sciutto — ‘NCIS’

There may not be another ticket here that could bring the country together like this one. In Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon) you have a strong, moderate conservative Marine with a tragic backstory, and in Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette) you have a whip-smart, funky liberal. Also, based on ratings, this pair would win in a landslide.

Homer and Lisa Simpson — ‘The Simpsons’

the simpsons 16 TV duos wed totally vote for in the 2016 presidential race

Homer Simpson (Dan Castellaneta) is a lovable oaf of a man, not unlike “The Simpsons” portrayal of former president Gerald Ford. That’s why he could make the perfect face of a presidency, but secretly we all know his daughter Lisa (Yeardley Smith) would be pulling the strings. She’s smarter than just about anyone and could make the world a much better place.

Fox Mulder and Dana Scully — ‘The X-Files’

the x files 16 TV duos wed totally vote for in the 2016 presidential race

The truth is out there and this president/vice president combination will find it once and for all. If the fabled President’s Book of Secrets is real — and current president Barrack Obama leads us to believe it might be — only Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) would make it available to the world. However, his insanity will have to be tempered by science and logic. He’s nothing without Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson). Perhaps instead of the usual president and VP, they can be co-presidents.
