For an animated movie inspired by a line of plastic dolls, Trolls proved to be quite lively and entertaining. On the big screen, the small creatures were adorable as they sang and danced their way through life. Princess Poppy, voiced by Anna Kendrick, was an apt heroine, since she combined a positive attitude with the courage to take action when other Trolls were captured by the unhappy Bergens.
As the voice of the grumpy survivalist Branch, Justin Timberlake served as the perfect counterpoint to the peppy Poppy. Timberlake also served as executive producer for the movie’s music and shared in composing “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” which won a Grammy Award and was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Song.
Timberlake and Kendrick sang a variety of songs in the movie, which was a financial success for Dreamworks Animation and Fox, earning more than $339 million at the box office worldwide. Thus, it’s no surprise that a sequel is now forthcoming.

It’s great news that Kendrick and Timberlake are returning, since so much of the original’s charm depends upon the genial chemistry they generated in their roles. We’ll be interested in seeing if any other original cast members will be coming back to the land of Trolls.
