The raunchy comedy The Hangover burst out as an early summer box office hit back in 2009, earning special plaudits for Bradley Cooper as a leading man. The secret ingredient, however, was the original screenplay by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, who were also responsible for Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, a smaller success released the month before The Hangover.
The writing duo soon made their directorial debut with 21 & Over, another foul-mouthed comedy that starred Miles Teller and somewhat resembled The Hangover in its raunchy antics. They next made plans to direct their sophomore effort, based on another original screenplay. Described as a raunchy “female-driven” comedy, the script attracted Leslie Mann and Judd Apatow as star and producer, respectively. Just a month later, both dropped out of the project, newly titled Bad Moms, due to scheduling issues.
Production was delayed while new stars were sought. Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Christina Applegate came on board in October 2015, later joined by Kathryn Hahn and Jada Pinkett Smith. The relatively low-budget movie was released on July 29 and proved to be a box office hit, earning more than $179 milliion worldwide.

Naturally, talk of a sequel began almost immediately, with cowriter and codirector Jon Lucas talking about making nine or ten. “Our goal right now, first and foremost,” he said, “is to make Bad Moms 2. To find out a way to get the sequel off the ground, because we had such a great experience making the movie.”
Now a sequel has been officially announced, via Kristen Bell.
