A guide to ‘Arrow’ Season 5’s new faces
“Arrow” is back and with it come some new faces to get used to. And you’re going to want to get to know them because chances are they aren’t going anywhere for quite a while.
The Season 5 premiere set a lot of things in motion but also sent a clear message: This is a grounded “Arrow.” With the show veering away from the supernatural and back toward realistic — at least until the crossover — the new characters introduced are a major step in that direction.
Who are they, though? Keep reading for breakdowns of the new faces in Star City.
Wild Dog
It turns out the Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) has inspired others to take up vigilante arms in Star City — in particular Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez). He’s essentially the first building block of the new Team Arrow, which Oliver and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) are building.
For those unfamiliar with DC Comics, Wild Dog is a character that’s been around since 1987 and like most heroes, he has no special powers. Much like the Green Arrow himself, he just wants to keep the streets clean and is willing to put his life on the line to make it happen.
He also has some serious skills on the streets. While Wild Dog may be rough around the edges, Oliver could mold him into one of Star City’s finest vigilantes.
Tobias Church
Tobias Church (Chad L. Coleman) is, quite honestly, the villain Star City needs. Amell has been very vocal since the end of Season 4 that it was time for “Arrow” to get more grounded in reality and Church is just the big bad to make that happen.
He’s a gangster, a crime boss. He doesn’t have magic powers, he doesn’t wear a crazy costume. He’s simply an intimidating figure who will torture and kill his way out of any situation. He’s also looking to consolidate all the evil power in Star City under himself. Based on what we’ve seen to far, he may just make that happen.
Prometheus
Prometheus is the big question mark on Season 5. He makes a horrific entrance in the premiere, essentially coming off like a demonized version of the Green Arrow. That cop he focused his rage on at the end of the episode may or may not be dead. Regardless, Prometheus has made a major statement.
The question on everyone’s mind though is who’s under the hood. All we know is he’s connected to Oliver dating back to the first season. “I will tell you that it’s going to be a shock to Oliver to find out who this guy is and what his backstory is,” executive producer Wendy Mericle previously old us.
When Oliver finally becomes aware of this person, somebody is going to get seriously hurt and … it might not be one of the bad guys. Prometheus is a threat Oliver may have trouble overcoming — his own past.
Felicity’s new boyfriend
He’s the big mystery of the night. Felicity has a new man — which we knew — and he’s a Star City cop. There’s no telling how far along their relationship is, but he’s clearly around when she comes home from a long day of vigilante justice.
Does he know about Felicity’s connection to the Green Arrow? Does he know about Mayor Queen’s night job? What, exactly, does he think she does all day? These are things viewers are going to find out soon enough. If he’s in the dark about everything though, that’s going to lead to an interesting revelation at some point.
