Alice Tan Ridley, Gabourey Sidibe’s Mom, Advances To “America’s Got Talent” Semi-Finals

Move over, Gabby: It’s time to make room for another star in the family.

On Wednesday night, Alice Tan Ridley, the mother of Academy Award-nominated Precious actress Gabourey Sidibe, advanced to the semi-finals of NBC’s popular reality talent show, America’s Got Talent.

Sashaying onto stage with a slightly revamped look, Alice belted out a rousing rendition of Gladys Knight & The Pips’ soul classic “Midnight Train To Georgia,” impressing the judges and a gaggle of viewers, who voted en masse for her.

Gabourey couldn’t be more thrilled that America is embracing her mother — a singer, who has spent years entertaining passersby in the subways of New York City.

“I’m really, really proud and really happy for her. She’s always been a singer and so it’s a different way of seeing her. It’s weird that she’s kind of blooming and blossoming a bit, but like, that’s just my mom and that’s what she’s always been doing and so she just has a wider audience now.”
