After tasting success with HTC’s Droid smartphone on including it its network, AT&T has not decided to add another Andorid run smartphone to its offerings of the products. The network service provider will now have HTC Aria in its list of Android based phones.

This decision will benefit the network subscribers, as they are always demanding new smartphone options. Subscribers can pick from many independent third party through the Android open plateform model. They are not dependent on iPhone App Store. But it looks like the expanded application options were over hyped as the media has given negative reports about it. There were reports that AT&T had blocked the Aria from downloading apps except from the Android market.

The Android app Market is a wide open market as against closed App store. However, iPhone customers can pick from a hundred thousand apps that are not under Apple’s approval process.

The developers are sure of a long-term future of widely distributed open plateform. However, AT&T decision to restrict HTC Aria application universe is in keeping with the network provider’s iPhone exclusive agreement and its plan to curtail data usage. The network provider’s long history of controlling its device and walled gardens for mobile content and application is well known and should be considered before criticizing its decisions.
