‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’: Elizabeth Olsen Says Her Scarlet Witch Costume Is ‘Different’
Comic-book fans can be very touchy about changes to their beloved characters in movie adaptations, so Elizabeth Olsen is giving a little warning that her Scarlet Witch will have a different look in “The Avengers: Age of Ultron.”
She revealed to Total Film (via Superhero Movie News) that she’s tried on her costume — and it’s more realistic than the buxom, skin-baring version in the Marvel comics. Director Joss Whedon had alluded to the changes before, and now Olsen has confirmed them.
“I don’t think Joss ever would have hired me, honestly, if he wanted me to wear those outfits; I am not a professional athlete and nor am I a model,” she said.
“Wearing those costumes wouldn’t be fun for anyone who wasn’t those things. He already had a different idea. It respects and involves the comic-book character but it’s different, more rooted. It’s for someone today.”
That makes sense — even for a superhero movie, “The Avengers” felt like it took place in our world. As Olsen put it, “If someone walked around wearing what she wore in the comics, people would stop and say, ‘What the hell … she thinks she’s a superhero!'”
And superheroes never want to reveal their superhero-ness!
