Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman and Managing Director, Bharti Airtel, on Thursday announced that the company has crossed the significant milestone of 200 million customers in the year 2009-10.

“We are today announcing and celebrating. Airtel having achieved the 200 million mark of customers. Some of you friends were there when we were talking in this very room at 100 million subscriber celebration, it was not too long ago, and then I had mentioned, that we will get the next 200 million, 100 coming in from, India and nearly 100 coming from outside India,” said Mittal.

“The first 100 out of the additional two hundred is in the bag now, where, India has contributed 60 more million customers, and Africa contributing 40 million,” he added, while addressing the media persons here today.

In the wake of the ongoing 2G spectrum scam, all the telecom companies are under the scanner of the investigating agencies.

Mittal, however, clarified that they have always abided by the government polices and will follow all the government guidelines.

“We are a subject of all regulatory policies that the government ushers from time-to-time, fifteen years has been a long time for me to experience that. Some good, some bad, sometimes really bad, but you have to carry on moving forward,” said Mittal.

“The good news is we have been able to weather many storms and we are in that sense capable of working under any environment that the policyholders decide,” he added.
