‘Blue Is the Warmest Color’ Trailer: U.S. Gets a Raw, Wordless Version (VIDEO)

Sundance Selects

The first U.S. trailer for film festival favorite “Blue is the Warmest Color” (below) is here, and what it’s lacking in dialogue, it makes up for in raw emotion.

The wordless trailer is instead soundtracked with moody indie rock, perfectly matching the onscreen melancholy surrounding its two main characters, French teens who embark on a lesbian love affair that’s, at times, electric and exhilarating, then hopelessly devastating. That the movie features a graphic, extended sex scene between the girls is beside the point; the trailer tantalizes with its promise of unflinching honesty.

Featuring breakout performances by its leads, Lea Seydoux and Adèle Exarchopoulos, “Blue” received a rave review from Moviefone’s own Alex Suskind, who called the film a “harrowing portrayal of first love [that] is both painful and intoxicating.”

“Blue is the Warmest Color” opens October 25.
