Celine Dion baby bundles are the namesakes of a pair of very prominent public figures.

“Eddy is a major influence in both Celine and Rene’s lives,” the couple’s rep told PEOPLE Thursday.

“Rene said that in just the few minutes they were able to spend with Nelson Mandela they were impressed by the human being he is. Celine and Rene want their children to be inspired by their names, because they were so inspired by these men.”

Dion and her husband Rene Angelil have named twin sons Eddy and Nelson after record producer Eddy Marnay and human rights campaigner and former South African President Nelson Mandela, who the star met two years ago.

Earlier this week, Celine admitted that she had hoped her in vitro fertilization treatments would result in at least one daughter.

“Honestly, if I had a choice, certainly I’d have liked to have a girl. But the day I learned that I was expecting two boys, I wasn’t disappointed. It was a day of tremendous joy. I’m truly happy,” Dion — who already has a nine-year-old son, Rene Charles, told French magazine Gala. “Everything went well and the babies are in good health. That’s all that counts.”

The “My Heart Will Go On” singer gave birth to the boys via C-section last Saturday at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Florida. The family went home on Thursday.
