Edison Pena, one of the 33 Chilean miners rescued from a mine after a 69-day ordeal last month, has been booked as a guest on the Late Show with David Letterman ahead of an appearance in this weekend’s New York City Marathon.

Pena has been tapped to appear on Late Show Thursday, marking the first in-studio interview for any of the miners since their harrowing rescue early last month, CBS said in a presser this afternoon.

Pena survived being trapped in the dark mine outside Copiapó, Chile by running three to six miles each day.

“Upon hearing his unique story and watching the rescue operation that was televised around the world, The New York Road Runners organization extended an invitation to Pena to run in the 2010 New York City Marathon, which he accepted Monday.”

The marathon is set for Sunday.

After that, Elvis Presley Enterprises has invited Pena to visit Graceland for Elvis’ annual birthday celebration set for Jan. 6-9.
