Could Oliver be gearing up to betray the Keating 5 on ‘HTGAWM’?

“How to Get Away with Murder” cut the Keating Five down to four members by killing Wes (Alfred Enoch), but Annalise (Viola Davis) inadvertently added another member in their little murder club in his place — Oliver (Conrad Ricamora).

“I think Oliver is in a really scary predicament,” showrunner Peter Nowalk says. “He’s being inducted into this craziness, and he’s really normal — or he was.”

Unfortunately, that normality could end up being a bad thing for Connor and his friends.

In the midseason finale, Connor (Jack Falahee) drunkenly near-confessed to Oliver that he played a part in Sam’s (Tom Verica) murder. He’s certainly left the bread crumbs for Oliver to find regarding the truth of that night — and Oliver might start piecing things together at the worst possible time.

If you’ll recall, Connor ended Fire Night by sleeping with Oliver’s ex, Thomas (Matthew Risch) — which can only be called revenge sex, even in the best of circumstances. We don’t imagine Oliver will be too happy about that little development, and an unhappy Oliver might be an overly honest Oliver. If he manages to figure things out while he’s still on the outs with Connor, the secret of Sam’s murder might not be safe anymore.

“He has a lot of power in how he chooses to deal with that,” Nowalk says of Oliver’s possible discovery of Sam’s murderer. “I think he probably had a sixth sense that things were messed up, obviously, but I think having Connor really say that out loud, it makes you confront the truth. He will be pivotal to them getting away with this or not getting away with it.”

That doesn’t sound like particularly good news for the group, even if Sam’s real killer (Wes) is dead and buried. Covering up a murder is still a pretty serious offense, and Oliver could end up getting himself immunity for his part in covering up Wes’ death in exchange for dirt on Annalise and her students.

Oliver doesn’t seem like the type to betray his friends, at all — but when 20-to-life is on the table and you’re recovering from a serious gaslighting, seems like most people would be capable of some seriously unexpected things.
