We’ve been beating the drum for Cheap Thrills, Evan L. Katz’s directorial debut, ever since catching its world premiere at the SXSW film festival a little over a year ago. It’s a sharp, funny, and twisted dark comedy about two guys (Pat Healy and Ethan Embry) who become the pawns in a game where a rich couple (David Koechner and Sara Paxton) offer them escalating sums of money to perform increasingly dangerous dares for their amusement.
Drafthouse Films is releasing Cheap Thrills in theaters this Friday (March 21, 2014), and that means we’ve got a goodie to share with you: David Koechner’s No Talking PSA! If you’re unfamiliar with these public service announcements, they’re a series of videos the Alamo Drafthouse commissions to remind audiences to keep their cell phones dark and in their pockets.
While you can only expect to see this clip playing in actual Alamo Drafthouse theaters, Cheap Thrills is indeed expanding to many non-Drafthouse theaters starting this weekend, so check your local listings to see if it’s playing near you (here’s the list so far). If it isn’t, head to your On Demand platform of choice (iTunes, Amazon and the like), as it’s also available on Digital VOD starting this weekend.
