It was the epic casting call that almost wasn’t. Before Michael J. Fox stepped into the role of Marty McFly in the blockbuster Back to the Future trilogy, the part of the aspiring musician with a thing for time travel and Elisabeth Shue originally went to Eric Stoltz.
Who knew?
Stoltz struggled with the role for five weeks back in 1985 before director Robert Zemeckis made the “heartbreaking” decision to axe the young star for failing to “bring the funny” to his interpretuation of Marty. And now, finally, footage of Eric as Marty has been revealed! The previously unseen clips of Stoltz’s work are among the Bonus Features included with the Back to the Future 25th Anniversary Trilogy Blu-Ray Collection, available Oct. 26.
