Facebook Nears 500 Million Users Milestone

The hub of the social networking craze, Facebook’s popularity has soared so high in just six years that the site is on the cusp of a major milestone.

The social networking site created by Harvard undergrad Mark Zuckerberg in 2004 has doubled in size in the last year alone and is expected to hit the monumental 500 million users mark on Wednesday. To put things in prospective, that equals the population of the United States, Japan and Germany combined. Or how about this — one out of every 14 people on the planet uses Facebook.

In fact, Facebook has become such a cultural phenomenon, according to a recent poll from Oxygen Media, 34% of women aged 18 to 34 said checking Facebook was the first thing they did in the morning, even before washing their face or brushing their teeth. Honestly, Ladies! We know getting “Poked” is important and all, but it shouldn’t take a backseat to essential things — like personal hygiene!
