Given the popularity of NASCAR and monster truck shows, it was only a matter of time before the Fast and the Furious franchise spawned a live arena show. The movies themselves have grossed billions of dollars worldwide primarily for their amazing stunts involving cars, trucks, motorcycles, tanks, cargo planes and, coming down the pike with The Fate of the Furious, submarines. Just imagine seeing some of those action sequences live in person.
Well, it’s about to become a reality.
According to Variety, Universal will launch a Fast and Furious arena tour in January 2018 with stunts from the eight movies re-created before your very eyes. There’s no detail on which spectacles will be included, but we can bet there’ll be lots of racing, probably some flipping, likely some people jumping from vehicle to vehicle and if we’re lucky at least one car bursting out of the nose of a flaming airliner. The report claims that there will be some digital projection involved, but even if illusion is at play, we’ll still be entertained.
While we wait to see what’s in store and when we can buy tickets, we should consider what other movies would do well with live arena entertainment spinoffs like this. Pirates of the Caribbean? Transformers? Mission: Impossible?
