Father & Brother Of “Harry Potter” Star Afshan Azad Charged With Her Attempted Murder

The father and brother of Harry Potter actress Afshan Azad have been arrested and charged with trying to kill her.

The 22-year-old actress — who has played Padma Patil in four of the blockbuster films — was allegedly attacked by her two family members at her home in Manchester last May. The melee began when Afshan’s father and brother allegedly began arguing with the star over her boyfriend and demanded she end the relationship. When she refused, they attacked and left her badly bruised.

Her father Abdul Azad, 54, and brother Ashraf Azad, 28, were arrested and charged. Both have been released on bail until July 12. In addition, Abdul and Ashraf are under court order to refrain from contacting Afshan before trial.

Azad had been living in Manchester with her father, mother and three brothers but is now staying with friends in London.

“We are going to get trouble from the community now. It is bad news for our safety, her safety,” Ashraf told members of the press upon his release. “My younger brother is going to get harassed at college. All our family is going to be harassed by the community because of this. Her career could be ruined. When she goes to a premiere or something, they are going to ask her about this not about the film,” he added.
