2010’s Skyline closed with a pretty bonkers ending that showed this low budget alien invasion movie could be much, much weirder than its big budget brethren. And while it’s sequel, Beyond Skyline, is apparently not a direct continuation of that storyline, it looks like it could be as big, strange and ambitious as its predecessor.
We still don’t have an official synopsis for the movie, but we do know a few things about it. We know Frank Grillo, who tore it up in The Purge: Anarchy, is playing a detective searching for his son that’s been taken by the invading aliens. And we know Iko Uwais, who tore it up in The Raid, is his co-star. That’s kind of the extent of it.
But thanks to this first clip from the movie, we’ve finally got our eyes on things and we’re happy to report this looks like it’s got the soul of a ’90s sci-fi action movie, and we mean that in the most loving way possible. It’s got fast action, arterial spray, and even flamethrower goodness all in one scene. And this clip doesn’t even have Frank Grillo’s character in it. Unless — hypothetical spoiler alert — he’s the reason that giant ship comes crashing down.
