It’s a bit strange that Adam Sandler is playing Andy Samberg’s dad in the upcoming comedy “Donny’s Boy” (previously titled, “I Hate You, Dad”). After all, Samberg is only 12 years his junior — not that accuracy has ever prevented Sandler fans from wrapping their heads around other outlandish plot points in Happy Madison movies (ahem, “Jack and Jill”).
The notion that the former “SNL” cast member will play dad to the current one is less outlandish when you realize that Sandler’s character fathered Samberg’s when he was only a teenager. However, it’s odd that the first photo from “Donny’s Boy” — which you can see in full over on the Los Angeles Times — features a buttoned-up Samberg standing next to a scruffy Sandler, who looks more like an older brother doubling as an aging rock star than an actual father.
“Donny’s Boy,” which also stars Leighton Meester and Susan Sarandon, tells the story of a father (Sandler) who moves in with his son (Samberg) right before his wedding. It’s set to hit theaters on June 15.
