‘Game of Thrones’ adds ‘Harry Potter’s’ Jim Broadbent — who will he be playing?

Fueling the theory that there are only about 12 actors total working in the U.K. at any given time, “Game of Thrones” has cast yet another “Harry Potter” alum for their seventh season.

Jim Broadbent, more popularly known as Hogwarts’ particular Professor Slughorn, has been added to HBO’s fantasy drama for it’s next season in a “significant” role according to Entertainment Weekly.

There’s been no word on who Broadbent will be playing the “Game of Thrones” Season 7, so as to avoid spoilers, but we’ve got a few ideas.

A new maester

We almost cringe at this possibility, since we just got rid of that faith militant plot at the end of Season 6. However, there are many other uses for maesters in “Game of Thrones” than carving symbols into people’s foreheads.

Perhaps Sansa (Sophie Turner) and Jon (Kit Harington) will need a new maester at Winterfell? Even better, maybe Broadbent will take up the professor role again and teach Samwell Tarly (John Bradley-West) everything he needs to know in that massive library?

Dany’s advisor

With Jorah (Iain Glen) gone and Daario (Michiel Huisman) left in Meereen, Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) is running out of friends to guide her ruling hand. Tryion (Peter Dinklage) is great, don’t get us wrong, but we think someone a little older and wiser might offer her some valuable insight into the history of Westeros.

Aerys Targaryen

So far, all our peeks at Aerys Targaryen have been shadowy flashbacks without much actual substance. It’s safe to assume that Season 7 will be dealing with more flashbacks to explain the other half of Jon’s parentage (R + L = J), and the Mad King would definitely be considered “significant” in the storyline.

“Game of Thrones” is set to return in the summer of 2017.
