Casey Bloys, president of HBO programming, tells the TCA 2016 summer press tour that Season 8 will be the final season of “Game of Thrones,” but that the network and executive producers are “open to” spinoff ideas.
“[EPs David Benioff and D. B. Weiss] have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do. If I could get them to do more, I would take 10 more seasons, but we take their lead and how they think they can do the best version of the show,” says Bloys. “We’ve talked about [a spinoff]. It’s something I’m not opposed to, but of course it has to make sense creatively … I’m open to it. The guys weren’t opposed to it, but there’s no concrete plans at this point.”

With that in mind, Zap2it has some ideas for this hypothetical spinoff. There are so many excellent supporting characters on “Game of Thrones,” that here are the characters we deem worthy of such a promotion.
Lyanna Mormont, Lady of Bear Island
She’s the fiercest kid to ever grace our TV screens. How did this young woman become so smart? When did she learn to be so diplomatic with her words that she is able to sway the vote in a room full of her elders with a “Braveheart” like speech? We want to know everything about her, and there are thousand of years of Mormont family history to draw upon. How exactly did she ascend to power? What was her family like?
The door would be open for cameos by her Uncle Jeor, Cousin Jorja and her “great warrior” of a mother. And there would be a lead up to the highly-anticipated — destined to be best friends and conquerers — meeting with Khaleesi (Emilia Clarke). Surpassing every Bechdel test, this moment would break the bar for badass female empowerment ever featured on TV.
Grey Worm and Missandei
These two have formed such a special relationship with each other, we want to know what their home life would be like once they help Khaleesi and company take over the Iron Throne. We’re picturing a half-hour reality sitcom like Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey’s “The Newlyweds.” It could be the Westeros edition in which we watch former slaves Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson) and Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) acclimate to their new luxurious life.
Brienne of Tarth, Tormund and Jaime Lannister
This love triangle is what dreams are made of! A “Three’s Company” kind of sitcom that would have Brienne decide between The King Slayer and Wildling warrior. Coster-Waldeu discussed having a rom-com style spin off with Brienne to GQ, saying, “What would you call that? ‘Roommates?’” before deciding that “Heartslayer” is a more perfect title.
However, Hivju has also gone on the record suggesting a Brienne and Tormund focused series, and that unlikely pairing makes for a quite entertaining courtship. But all three characters together? TV gold.
Daario Naharsi
Daario (Michiel Huisman) has been left in charge of Mereen, and a “Thrones” style “Bachelor” type of show would be great for the handsome lothario as the most powerful man in the city who is now in need of a queen. But the special twist would be that the actor who originally played Daario — “Deadpool’s” Ed Skrein — would return.
Which Daario would the women of Mereen fall for? Who would the city recognize as their rightful king? It’s so much fun just imagining what this final rose ceremony would look like!
