Glenn Close is “deeply offended and insulted” about the unauthorized use of her image in a series of raunchy videos shot by a senior US Naval officer on a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.
The Damages star and five-time Oscar nominee is seen in a string of films made by Captain Owen Honors of the USS Enterprise, one of America’s premier aircraft carriers. The video, which Honors claims he made to boost Navy officers’ morale, shows young women showering, overweight men in bikinis, and jokes about proctology exams, while Close is seen in a montage at the end of the clip wearing a Navy hat. Close, 63, appeared in a video clip after a “seemingly innocent request” made during a visit to the USS Enterprise nearly five years ago.

“I am distraught that my image has been used to perpetuate something that I abhor. The cynical, unauthorized use of my image in this video is deeply offensive and insulting, and was the result of a seemingly innocent request of me during a visit to the aircraft carrier over four years ago.”
Honors was dishonorably discharged from naval duties on Tuesday. The Navy has permanently removed Captain Owen Honors from command of the carrier for the vids, which also included anti-gay slurs and sexual innuendo.
During a press call from Norfolk, Virginia, the homeport of the nuclear-powered ship, Admiral John Harvey said that Honors had shown “exceptionally poor judgment” by producing the offensive footage.
“I have lost confidence in his ability to lead effectively, to command Enterprise,” Harvey said after viewing the controversial videos, first shot in 2006 and 2007. “He is being held accountable for the poor judgment and inappropriate actions repeatedly demonstrated in those videos,” he added.
