Guns N’ Roses stormed off stage at a concert in Dublin, Ireland on Wednesday night after angry fans hurled objects at the band for showing up more than an hour late.

Band frontman Axl Rose and his bandmates faced flying containers full of what promoters described as unknown substances after they arrived onstage 40 minutes late at The O2 in Dublin. The rockers were greeted with a chorus of boos as they started their concert behind schedule, and were forced to stop the set after just 20 minutes when angry revellers began hurling missiles at them in the onslaught.

“Here’s the deal: One more bottle and we go home,” a fuming Axl warned the rowdy concertgoers. “It’s up to you. We would like to stay. We want to stay. We want to have some fun. If you don’t want to have fun, all you’ve got to do is let us know. We’ve got no problem – we’ll go on our way.”

The bottles kept right on flying. Figures. The furious group then left the stage, only to return after an hour to finish the show — but not without some arm-twisting.

Denis Desmond, head of MCD Promoters, came out on stage to plead with some sections of the audience to stop throwing items and promised to have the band back on stage shortly. He also stopped Axl leaving the venue, MCD said.

“The artist was prevented from leaving the venue by the promoter and following backstage discussions, Guns N’ Roses went back on stage at 23.20 and performed their full set until 00.53am,” read a statement released by MCD on Thursday.

The incident is reminiscent of a similar one last month, in which ex-reality star Tila Tequila was attacked and pelted with bodily fluids after she appeared on stage during a music festival in Illinois.
