Sometimes a celeb’s personal life can overshadow their business accomplishments, so we can’t help but wonder if Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are going to be victims of this outcome following their highly publicized (and very nasty) divorce.
The former couple, who were married for 15 months before calling it quits, made headlines as each move of their dramatic split was broadcasted publicly, and although the two stars managed to skip a trial and agree on a settlement, there’s still question if what’s been put out to light already will interfere with both of their abilities to continue with their respective careers moving forward.
Luckily for them, The Hollywood Reporter staffer Ashley Cullins tells E! News she doesn’t think this will be the case.
“The good news for both of them is that people have very short attention spans,” she explains. “They’ve both got work lined up, projects coming up through 2018. By 2018, nobody’s going to remember this happened. So I think they’ll just get right back to work, leave it behind them, and people will forget it and move on to something sexier and shinier tomorrow.”
Cullins continues to note that Depp’s longevity in his career is what will help him maintain his status in the industry.
“I think Johnny has spent a very long time building his career, and a lot of people came to his defense when this happened, so I really don’t think, moving forward, this is going to hurt him,” she says. “He has an H.G. Wells project that he’s working on, The Invisible Man, he’s voicing a character in the Gnomeo and Juliet sequel, both of these things he’ll be working on for the next couple of years, and by then, I don’t think anybody’s going to be talking about his nasty divorce with Amber Heard.”
She continues, “I haven’t heard anyone say that they’re not going to worth with either of them over this. So, both Johnny and Amber seemed to have dodged any negative career ramifications so far.”
Earlier this week, just one day before they were scheduled to appear in court, the pair reached a settlement in their divorce as the actor agreed to pay his former wife $7 million.
An insider told E! News at the time, “Amber was happy to settle because she wanted everything to be over. It’s taken a toll on her, her family and her friends in a very emotional way.”
Our source also said Johnny wanted the settlement from the start. “Johnny did not want to go to trial. Since Amber filed the restraining order J.D. had hoped things would settle.”
The insider continued, “Initially, being the stubborn people they are, they both didn’t want to give in to each other’s requests. For a long time Amber lived with a lot of hurt and had been deeply affected by J.D.’s behavior, but chose not to say anything. Whenever something would happen, he’d apologize, and they’d move on. Johnny never wanted the world to know any of this.”
Now that they’ve reached a settlement and can both move on, the source said, “Amber hopes Johnny will get the help he needs and wishes him the best.”
