'John Wick' Director Gives the 'Highlander' Remake a New Chance at Immortal…
There are a few remakes that just seem flat out cursed to spend eternity in development hell. Perhaps the most notable is The Crow, which not only routinely cycles through stars and directors, but also production companies. At this point if The Crow ever actually happens, it’ll be a Hollywood miracle. The Crow isn’t the only movie that thrived on VHS that’s in development hell. There’s also Highlander.
Five few years ago it had been reported that Fast & Furious director Justin Lin would be updating the film about immortals living secretly among men. Obviously that never happened. A few more hopped on, most notably including 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. And back in 2012, while Deadpool was in its own special ring of development hell, Ryan Reynolds was reportedly sought after to star in Highlander. Obviously that also never happened.
But now The Hollywood Reporter has broken news that John Wick co-director Chad Stahelski has signed on to direct Highlander, giving the stagnant project a much needed jolt of life. And while it’s probably a safe assumption that Reynolds’ booming popularity puts him out of reach for a Highlander remake, maybe Stahelski can ask his John Wick co-director David Leitch to put in a good word. After all, Leitch is directing Deadpool 2.
Highlander is now in search of a writer, so there’s still plenty of time for it to once again stall. But if you are optimistic and want to see a new Highlander, here’s a look at Stahelski’s most recent movie. Speaking of, its star would make a pretty interesting Connor MacLeod…
