(Sigh…) We’ve heard of holding on to the past, but nearly a year after the fateful incident, Kanye West is still feeling bad about ruining Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. In fact, he’s posted an epic 200-Tweet apology in an attempt to clear his conscience.

After infamously interrupting Taylor’s moment of triumph to tell her she shouldn’t have won, the ego-driven rapper used the magic of Twitter to say what he’s never said publicly: “I’m sorry, Taylor.”

Swift has just beat out expected winner Beyonce for the Best Female Video trophy at last September’s VMAs when West rushed onstage and grabbed the microphone, famously remarking: “Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ma let you finish, but Beyoncé has one of the best videos of all-time. One of the best videos of all-time!”

And with a shrug, he disappeared as quickly as he came, leaving a mortified Taylor onstage and an equally mortified Beyoncé sitting in the audience. Awkward. To her immense credit, Taylor didn’t tell Kanye to eff off, like most sensible people would’ve done. However, West was widely criticized for his behavior and even suffered financially as a result of the outburst.

In an update to his Twitter page on Saturday, Yeezy said the morning after the incident he looked in the mirror and said to himself, “Grow up, Kanye… I’m ready to get out of my own way. The ego is overdone. I take responsibility for my actions.”

“We’re both artists, and the media and managers are trying to get between us….She deserves the apology more than anyone. She had no idea what hit her. She’s just a lil girl with dreams like the rest of us. Taylor and her family friends and fans definitely didn’t want or need that,” Kanye wrote, adding that he recently penned a song that he would love Taylor to feature on her forthcoming album, Speak Now, dropping in October.

He went on to describe the backlash he faced following his behavior at the VMAs. “There are people who don’t dislike me, they absolutely hate me. People tweeted that they wish I was dead. No, listen. They wanted me to die, people. I carry that.”

However, West also blamed the media for making too much of the incident.

“The media has successfully diminished the ‘receptive’ audience of… KANYE WEST. …taking a 15 second blip the media have successfully painted the image of the ‘ANGRY BLACK MAN.’ The King Kong theory. With the help of strong will, a lack of empathy, a lil’ alcohol and extremely distasteful & bad timing … I became George Bush over night…”

Nonetheless, the hip-hopster admitted that the episode had allowed him to grow up.

“I would never ever again in a million years do that. Sorry to let you down.”
