You know the story of King Kong. Man finds remote island populated with giant monsters. Man takes one of those monsters back to the mainland. Things end poorly.
You know the story of King Arthur. There’s a legendary sword lodged in a stone that nobody can remove. Until one day an unassuming man does what no one else could and takes the sword, signifying him as a man destined to lead the British.
We all have seen these stories play out in so many different ways over the years, and yet people keep making new movies about them. And while it’s easy to complain about reboots, this is a case where we’re glad someone greenlit new versions of these stories. They both look big and bold and distinctly unlike any past adaptations of these stories. They’re defying expectations, and, what’s even cooler is that neither trailer seems to really be giving too much away. In fact, Kong: Skull Island never even gives us a full body look at the giant ape, and yet we’re totally sucked in.
