Talk about “Art Imitating Kra-zee!”
Mel Gibson will resurrect his film career…or what’s left of it…next spring in Jodie Foster’s The Beaver, a comedy about a depressed, emotionally-disturbed businessman and his stuffed animal alter ego that is eerily similar to the Oscar winner’s real-life meltdown.
Though the film was shot months before Gibson was heard ranting at ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva in secret audiotapes that thrust the Lethal Weapon actor in the middle of a domestic violence scandal/child custody battle, the trailer features dialogue that is oddly close to life.
Don’t believe us? Just take a listen to this voiceover that opens the film’s promo: “This is the story of Walter Black, a hopelessly depressed individual. The successful, loving family man he used to be has gone missing.”
After postponing The Beaver’s release to give the public time to recover from Gibson’s racially-charged, sexist tirade, executives at Summit Entertainment are now ready to launch the actor’s comeback — possibly sometime in April, sources told The Los Angeles Times Friday.
OK — by a show of hands, who plans to hit the theater this spring for Mad Mel’s Big Return? Show yourselves!
