Movie News: 3D ‘Star Wars’ II and III Release Dates; ‘Robocop’ Villain Casting; Trailer for Joe Dante’s ‘The Hole’
Star Wars: Tentatively planned for release a year apart, the 3D conversions of the next two episodes of Star Wars have been confirmed and dated. The 3D re-release of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones will hit theaters on September 20, 2013, followed shortly thereafter by Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith on October 11, 2013. The official logo (above), which seems to allow for multiple films rather than specifically referencing II and III, has also raised a new hope that the original trilogy in 3D will follow in theaters soon thereafter. Robocop: In Hollywood, it’s not unusual for contract negotiations to break down after they’ve been publicly reported, and that’s what has apparently happened between Hugh Laurie and the folks behind the upcoming Robocop remake. Laurie was in talks to play the CEO of Omnicorp., a nasty villain. With production slated to begin next month, a new bad guy will need to be secured quickly; Clive Owen is one possibility. Cameron Crowe: Recently we heard that writer/director Cameron Crowe had set up an untitled romantic film to shoot next spring with Emma Stone prepared to star as the female lead. After he finishes that, it now looks like he’ll be making Beautiful Boy, about a father coming to grips with his son’s drug addiction. It’s inspired by two memoirs, one by the father and one by the son. [The Wrap]

Joe Dante’s thriller The Hole has been left hanging in film distribution limbo for far too long, but it’s finally secured a release date — September 28 — and the trailer embedded below gives a taste of the twisted delights in store from the director of Gremlins and Small Soldiers.
