Movie News: Benedict Cumberbatch to Star in 'Melrose'; Anson Mount to Lead 'Marv…
Melrose: Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange, above) will star in Melrose, a five-part limited series that will debut on Showtime. It’s based on a series of semi-autobiographical books by Edward St. Aubyn that follow a man over the course of some 40 years as he deals with the consequences of an abusive childhood. David Nicholls is writing all five episodes; the series will begin production in August. [Deadline]
Marvel’s Inhumans: Anson Mount (Non-Stop, above), who starred on AMC’s Western series Hell on Wheels for five seasons, will star in Marvel’s Inhumans. Mount will play Black Bolt, the leader of a race of superhumans; he communicates without speaking. Scott Buck (Dexter, Iron Fist) has been named showrunner for the series, which will debut this fall. Rebel in the Rye: IFC Films has acquired distribution rights to Rebel in the Rye (above), which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January. Nicholas Hoult stars as writer J.D. Salinger during his early years, before he completed his classic novel The Catcher in the Rye and later became a recluse. Kevin Spacey, Sarah Paulson and Zoey Deutch also star; Danny Strong directed. Look for the movie in theaters this fall. [Variety]
Spark: A Space Tail Trailer: A teenager and his friends seek to overthrow an evil overlord on their home planet in the animated adventure Spark: A Space Tail. The voice cast includes Jessica Biel, Susan Sarandon and Patrick Stewart; it will open in theaters on April 14. [Movieclips]
