Movie News: Diego Luna to Star in 'Scarface,' Which Now Needs Director; Mel Gibson, J…

Scarface: Diego Luna (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, above) is attached to star in Scarface, a reimagining of the gangster classic. Director Antoine Fuqua has departed the project, however, due to scheduling issues. Fuqua had already invested considerable time in developing The Equalizer 2, so that will now take priority for him. As for Scarface, Universal has begun meeting with potential directors, aiming to start production in the spring. Based on a revised script by Terence Winter, the movie is set in Los Angeles and will revolve around a Mexican immigrant. [Variety]

 

Daddy’s Home 2: Mel Gibson (Blood Father, above left) and John Lithgow (Miss Sloane, above right) are under consideration to join the sequel to Daddy’s Home. The comedy will once again star Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell. No details about the plot have been revealed yet. [Deadline]

 

1950s Fashion Movie: In June 2016, we heard that Daniel Day-Lewis and director Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood, above) might reunite to make a movie about the New York fashion industry in the 1950s. Last fall we learned the movie will actually take place in and around “the couture world of 1950s London.” Now comes word that production has begun in rural England. The Lego Batman Movie TV Spot: Bruce Wayne, also known as Batman, suddenly finds himself raising a boy he adopted, somehow. A new TV spot for The Lego Batman Movie features the voice of Will Arnett as Batman; the movie will open in theaters on February 10. [Movieclips]
