New 'Fifty Shades Darker' Trailer Slips Out Of The Ordinary

If you ever need proof that pop culture phenomena can come from the most unlikely places, just look to Fifty Shades of Grey. Originally published online as Twilight fan fiction called Master of the Universe, it became popular enough that writer E. L. James took it down and rewrote it as its own original, three-part story. With a new publisher on board, the books became monster hits around the world. Amazon has sold more copies of Fifty Shades of Grey in the UK than it has the entire Harry Potter series, which is kind of astonishing.

And so here we are, only a few years after James startedher story of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele’s complicated relationship and not only has the first Fifty Shades of Grey movie earned over $571 million at the global box office, but we’re only two months away from its sequel, Fifty Shades Darker.

This time directed by James Foley (Fear) from a screenplay by James’ husband, Niall Leonard, Fifty Shades Darker finds Ana (Dakota Johnson) dealing with figures from Christian’s (Jamie Dornan) past, most notably the woman (Kim Basinger) who introduced him to his very singular tastes.
