Nicole Richie‘s Macy’s Impulse collection doesn’t hit stores until Sept. 12, but we’re already making mental notes about which items we’re buying and how we’re going to wear them — and we’ve even received a few styling ideas from the designer herself.
Richie believes the pieces — including printed dresses, silky blouses, blazers and leather leggings priced from $ 49 to $ 149 — are bold enough to stand on their own, but that adding a little something extra never hurts.
“I love to layer jewelry, so that is how I see it — tons of layered necklaces,” the star tells PEOPLE StyleWatch. “In terms of shoes, any style goes! You can dress these pieces up with heels, go casual with boots …”
And the same goes for makeup and hair: there’s no such thing as a mistake. “I design these pieces to be special, so however a woman chooses to wear her hair and makeup is just right,” she adds.
Though we already have a few personal favorites (like the dress Richie is wearing at left) from the boho-chic collection, naturally, the star has her own preferences, too. “I did this faux fur and leather jacket — it’s just really cool,” she reveals. “As a shopper, I tend to go for statement jackets and coats — that one piece that is going to make any outfit look and feel special. You can wear this jacket with shorts and a tee, over a long maxi dress — I would say the options are endless with the cropped style.”
