There is no move to shift any of the matches out of Bangladesh despite an attack on the West Indies team bus in Dhaka Friday by miscreants who threw “pebbles” that broke a couple of windows, according to International Cricket Council chief executive Haroon Lorgat.
Maintaining that the incident did not justify moving the scheduled ICC Cricket World Cup fixtures, Lorgat expressed confidence in the security arrangements provided by the Bangladesh authorities, but also said the ICC had contingency plans.
Three more league fixtures besides two quarter-final games are scheduled to be played in the coming weeks in Bangladesh, one of the CWC co-hosts along with India and Sri Lanka.
“I was told it was a minor incident. My understanding of the incident was that few irate fans threw pebbles at the bus and they were pebbles.
“The police who were present at that moment have made certain arrests. I am sure the security is firm enough to handle such issues. I have said before that we are very pleased with the security arrangements in the ongoing World Cup.
“We will not move a game lightly, but it is not something that we would discount for briefing. I do not believe that the particular incident justifies any games to be moved from there just like that.
“I think we will consider moving with the schedule that has been set out. We do have contingency plans above security arrangements that are in place. I am extremely confident that you will see the tournament is held as scheduled,” said Lorgat at a media conference here Saturday.
According to reports, stones were hurled at the West Indies team bus as it left the stadium in Dhaka after routing Bangladesh by nine wickets with the hosts collapsing to 58 all out.
