Up next: Season 1, episode 11, “Moments Later,” aired Jan. 3, 2011.

What we thought then …

Alison (Sasha Pieterse) visits Hanna (Ashley Benson) in the hospital after Hanna was run down by “A.” Viewers were divided as to whether that was really Alison or just Hanna’s hallucination/dream (or Ali’s unknown twin, which is a book storyline).

There are also some hints that Noel Kahn (Brant Daugherty) is “A” — because he was the one who spied Aria (Lucy Hale) kissing Mr. Fitz (Ian Harding) and wrote “I see you” on their window. The Liars also think that “A” might be more than one person.

Finally, the “Alison + Ian” tree is cut down and the “A” tag shows someone burning it.

What we know now …

After the hit-and-run, we see “A” running away from the car. It’s a real shame they didn’t actually use Janel Parrish to do that, that would have been cool. It is very clearly not her.

That really was Alison in the hospital. She pops in to check on the girls several times over the years.

Noel was not (yet) working with “A.” In fact, he’s mostly just being a concerned friend to Aria (Lucy Hale) right now. Also, “A” is just one person (so far).

The “A” tag is interesting, because it could be someone other than “A.” Alison or Ian could have decided to get rid of that tree and burn it. Food for thought.

Hindsight hilarity …

This episode is rife with funny mentions knowing what we know now.

In the hospital, the Liars comment that “It’s like ‘A’ has a split personality” and that “‘A’ and Ali’s killer are two separate people.”

They are right on both counts — “A” (a.k.a. Mona) does kind of have a split personality, and she is not Ali’s killer.

Also, after the “A + I” tree is cut down, Aria exclaims:

… which is hilarious considering that seven seasons later, “A” cutting down a whole tree doesn’t even crack the Top 50 insane things “A” has pulled off.

Creepiest dude award goes to …

This is tough — nobody’s that creepy this episode. Lucas (Brendan Robinson) kisses Hanna’s forehead when she’s sleeping, but it’s really just sweet. And Noel is all up in Aria’s business, but he thinks Mr. Fitz is coercing her into a relationship she doesn’t want and he offers to help her go to the principal, which is actually a really nice, friend-y thing to do.

Emily’s parents could have handled her coming out better, but her dad (Eric Steinberg) is way more supportive than her mom (Nia Peeples).

So, no one’s creepy this week. Good job, men of “PLL”!

Best ‘A’ message …

The “A” message is not only totally baller because it is left on Hanna’s cast, but it’s very fitting once we find out Mona is “A” — she feels tremendously guilty for running down Hanna with her car, mostly because it was a reaction of jealousy at their lost friendship, not so much because of what Hanna does or does not know in regards to “A’s” identity.
