Keep an eye on the mailbox. The invitations to Prince William’s spring nups to English sweetheart Kate Middleton went out at the end of last week and approximately 1,900 friends and family of the British royals are expected to be attendance for the ceremony at Westminster Abbey April 30.
The invitations bear Queen Elizabeth’s initials die-stamped in gold below a crown and state:
“The Lord Chamberlain is commanded by the Queen to invite [name] to the marriage of his Royal Highness Prince William of Wales KG with Miss Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey on Friday 29 April 2011 at 11.00am.”
The fancy-pants card will serve as the gilded and gold-lettered ticket for a guest list that includes fellow royals, charity leaders, family, friends, Prime Ministers, and even a few lucky members of the public who were randomly selected, St. James’s Palace said Saturday. Besides family and friends, the guests will include more than 200 members of the government, Parliament and diplomatic corps; 60 governors-general and prime ministers from Commonwealth countries; about 80 representatives from various charities favored by the couple; 30 members of the armed forces; and representatives from the church and other faiths, according to The BBC. Also in attendance will likely be England’s own David and Victoria Beckham. The prince, who is president of the Football Association, and David hit it off after meeting in South Africa during last year’s World Cup.
But one former family member who didn’t make the final 1900 is William’s former aunt by marriage, Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson. Prince Andrew’s former wife — and a close pal of the prince’s late mother Diana — was left off the guest list, although her daughters Beatrice, 22, and Eugenie, 20, are expected to be on hand for their cousin’s big day.
Fergie’s rep says she will be overseas at the time, though she never received an invitation anyway.
“She will not be attending. She never expected to be invited,” her rep told PEOPLE Saturday.
