America still can’t get enough of The Palins!

The debut of Sarah Palin’s Alaska, the former governor’s travelogue about her home state, attracted 5 million in its series premiere on TLC Sunday night.

The inaugural episode was the top-rated series premiere in the network’s history, even besting the 2003 debut of What Not To Wear, according to Nielsen. Despite the victory, the network’s all-time ratings high still belongs to the June 2009 divorce announcement episode on Jon & Kate Plus Eight; about 10.6 million pairs of eyeballs sat glued to their tubes for that one.

During her first episode, the ex-vice presidential candidate treated viewers to some fishing and rock climbing and tried to ward off the prospect of becoming a grandmother for the second time by keeping her daughter Willow’s new boyfriend away from the teenager’s room!
