Seven former senior employee of Union Carbide’s Indian subsidiary has been convicted for their role in the gas tragedy that took place in Bhopal 25 years ago. As a result of the gas leak in the pesticide-manufacturing factory, 15,000 people were dead in the locality around it. The employees have been convicted for their role in death by negligence.

Union Carbide Indian Ltd also was convicted of the same charges. However, the company does not exist now. The tragedy happened in Dec 3, 1984 and most of the employees who were convicted are now in there 70s. They may serve two years in prison now.

But the people whose relatives had died due to the gas leak were not satisfied with the verdict saying that it was too little and too late also. Local activists also were saying that more employees of the company were responsible and they should also have been convicted.
