Shania Twain Married!

The new year got off to a booming start for country sweetie Shania Twain: She got married!

Just weeks after confirming her engagement to Nestle executive Frederic Thiebaud, Shania tied the knot in Puerto Rico on New Year’s Day, a rep for the singer confirmed to PEOPLE on Saturday evening.

“They were married at sunset in Rincon, Puerto Rico, in front of 40 of their closest family and friends,” a rep for the “Come On Over” songbird.

The Canadian singer, 45, said “Yes” after beau Frederic Thiebaud popped the question two months ago in his native Switzerland.

The couple’s road to matrimony has been a rocky one: Twain is now the wife of the ex-husband of the woman her own ex-husband cheated with. Bear with us, this is kind of confusing. Perhaps a double-wide trailer and banjo music would make this easier to explain.

Shania’s ex-husband Robert “Mutt” Lange allegedly had an affair with her former best friend, Marie-Anne Thiebaud – and bizarrely they ended up swapping partners. Both Robert and Marie-Anne denied the affair, but in the wake of the alleged betrayal, Shania and Frederic, Marie-Anne’s jilted husband, reached out to each other, bonding over their mutual heartbreak and ultimately falling in love.

“I’m in love!” the Canadian beauty blogged on the heels of her engagement news. “Frederic Nicolas Thiebaud has been a true gift to me as a compassionate, understanding friend and over time, an amazing love has blossomed from this precious friendship.”

Shania, who has stepped away from the spotlight the last few years, has a big year ahead of her. The singer/songwriter is set to tell her lifestory on the pages of a harrowing autobiography due out in the spring and is scheduled to have her own show on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN channel later this year.
