Proving once more that fall is not the season for lovers, we hear that acid-tongued music mogul Simon Cowell is on “a break” from his fiancee Mezhgan Hussainy after determining that he popped the question to the makeup artist too soon after their first meeting.
News of Hollywood’s latest celebrity split comes from Cowell’s mom, Julie Cowell, who tells Mail on Sunday that Hussainy is currently living in Los Angeles while Cowell is in Britain working on the latest season of the ITV smash The X Factor. The 85-year-old hopes the trial separation will give Simon — a lifelong bachelor who had previously sworn off the world of wedded bliss — and Mezghan time to determine whether or not marriage is what both really want.
The couple confirmed news of the engagement during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno earlier this year.
“It’s a break at the moment. The problem with Simon is that he works so hard. She’s gone to America which, in a way, is a good thing because of Simon’s work. At the moment it isn’t a good idea for her to be here. She doesn’t know many people in London,” Mrs. Cowell yaps, pooh-poohing reports from his son’s spokesfolks insisting that Simon and Mezghan are still very much an item.
“If you are Simon’s girlfriend, let’s be honest about this, you are not going to see very much of him. It’s very difficult for a girl to accept that. He doesn’t want anyone sitting in his dressing room when he’s working. Sometimes these girls want to be there too much,” she adds. “They are on good terms and I’m sure are in regular contact. Simon remains friends with all his ex-girlfriends. I think (the engagement) was too quick. This might give them the break they need to think it through. Marriage is a very, very big step.”
