Steven Spielberg will produce a big screen biopic about disco charttoppers The Bee Gees, according to The Mail on Sunday.

Spielberg is will versed in nearly all genres — from horror, with the likes of 1975’s Jaws. to biopics in the upcoming Abraham Lincoln film –- but he’s never tackled a musical.

The Bee Gees formed in 1958 and went on to sell more than 200 million records worldwide during the 1970s. The sib trio famously provided the soundtrack to John Travolta’s Saturday Night Fever, which included hits such as “Stayin’ Alive,” “How Deep Is Your Love,” “Night Fever,” and “More Than A Woman.” Robin Gibb, who performed in the group with his twin Maurice and their older brother Barry, says that some “very important people” are vying for a role on the production team of the proposed Bee Gees film.

“It will be our life story. Barry and I will be involved in the technical side,” Robin explains. “I’d like our original recordings to be used because it’s very hard to emulate them.”

Following Maurice’s death in 2003, the surviving Bee Gees decided to retire the group name. In 2009, the band announced that they were reforming and even performed on Dancing With The Stars earlier this year.
