'Star Wars' Buzz: Disney Sets 'Star Wars' Land Opening, 'Scary Movie&#…
In a call to investors this week, Disney CEO Bob Iger claimed he’s seen an early cut of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which doesn’t hit theaters until December, and called it “a great next chapter in the iconic Skywalker family saga.” That revelation is likely to have whet your appetite for more Star Wars goodies, so here are a few recent updates to share:
Star Wars Land
We’ve seen the photos and the TV special, but when do we actually get to visit the Star Wars portion of Disney’s theme parks? In the same call, Iger discussed the openings for both Pandora–The World of Avatar and the still unnamed Star Wars Land, the latter currently under construction at both Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios in Florida. Sometime in 2019 was the stated target, according to /Film, which believes Disneyland’s version will open first.
Scary Movie and Epic Movie Guys Do a Star Wars Movie
We’ve seen countless spoofs of the Star Wars franchise in the last 40 years, since the original arrived in theaters, some of them as classic as Hardware Wars and Spaceballs and the Family Guy animated takes, but we’ve never seen one from the duo currently most notorious for lampoons such as Scary Movie, Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, Meet the Spartans and Date Movie (with a Darth Vader bit pictured above).
But according to The Hollywood Reporter, Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg are working on something they’re titling Star Worlds Episode XXXIVE=MC2: The Force Awakens the Last Jedi Who Went Rogue. Sorry, whoever first noticed the phrasing you get by combining The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, but they went and officially took the idea. They begin shooting this fall.
Dame Judi Dench Attempts to Get The Last Jedi Spoilers
Last week, Josh Gad began pestering his Murder on the Orient Express costar Daisy Ridley with The Last Jedi questions, including queries about the meaning of the title. Now he’s looped in another cast member from the currently shooting Agatha Christie adaptation: Dame Judi Dench. In the below video, Ridley stands her ground in spite of how frighteningly intimidating Dench is. Meanwhile, we should all now be wondering why Dench doesn’t get cast in a Star Wars movie. She’d clearly make a great addition to the Dark Side.
