Comedy: ‘Get Shorty’ (1995)
This Barry Sonnenfeld mobster comedy follows Chlli Palmer (John Travolta), a gangster loan collector who travels to Hollywood to collect a debt from a movie producer (Gene Hackmackman). Chili soon realizes though that the movie business is much like the mob. Also starring Rene Russo, Danny DeVito, and James Gandolfini, “Get Shorty” gives a hilarious insight to the film industry and is just as funny today as it was when it came out.

Action: ‘Resident Evil’ (2002)
The first film in the “Resident Evil” series based on the video games stars Milla Jovovich as Alice and Michelle Rodriguez as Rain, both members of a commando team. The two infiltrate a research laboratory to take down the scientists-turned-zombie who were infected by a virus. If you’re a fan of ridiculous gore and enjoy two women kicking some serious zombie butt then “Resident Evil” is the perfect addition to your weekend queue.

Classic: ‘The Odd Couple’ (1968)
This 1968 Oscar-nominated comedy stars Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau as two mismatched friends sharing an apartment together. With Oscar’s (Matthau) sloppiness and Felix’s (Lemmon) excessive neatness, the two are driven to nearly killing each other. Both Lemmon and Mattheu shine together in this classic comedy that is still an equally hilarious and fun watch.

Sci-Fi/Horror: ‘Hellraiser’ (1987)
The debut film from Clive Barker (“Candyman”) and the first in the “Hellraiser” series introduces the story of the puzzle box that opens a door to Hell. Starring Andrew Robinson, Clare Higgins, and Doug Bradley as Pinhead, “Hellraiser” is a classic creepy horror film for all scary movie aficionados. What better way to kick off the month of horror than with some sado-masochistic Cenobites?

Indie/Documentary: ‘Room 237’ (2012)
From filmmaker Rodney Ascher this quizzical documentary explores the many theories and conspiracies behind Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 classic “The Shining.” Through decoding hidden symbols, and thoughts from scholars and fans of the film, “Room 237” presents the most wild interpretations on the Jack Nicholson movie yet. This doc will not only keep you entertained from start to finish, but leave your mind whirling with its many propositions.

Foreign: ‘Week End’ (1967)
Jean-Luc Godard’s 1967 dark comedy stars Mireille Darc and Jean Yanne as a bourgeois French couple who both have secret lovers and are both plotting to murder each other. The two take a trip through the countryside, which evolves into a bizarre, chaotic journey of murder, rape, and cannibalism. Godard’s absurd apocalyptic farce is a genius addition to the French New Wave canon and a must-see for any cinephile.
