It was bound to happen, but Kara (Melissa Benoist) finally found out who was being Guardian’s super swanky mask. To say she didn’t take it well is a pretty intense understatement.
James’ (Mehcad Brooks) Guardian arc has been a slowly building side plot all season, and Monday’s (Jan. 30) episode finally saw that conflict explode.

On one hand, we see Kara’s point. James is incredibly breakable as a human when compared to herself, Mon-El (Chris Wood) and Superman (Tyler Hoechlin). She was totally right when she said that one wrong move, one human error, could quite literally be the difference between life and death for him. Even worse, he’s a hero in every sense of the word, which means he could (and probably would) die saving someone’s life, no mistakes required. Did you see the way he jumped in front of that lightning bolt? Pure hero.
Ironically enough, that’s the same reason we see James’ point. He was born to be a hero, not a sidekick. As much as Mon-El might have the powers to take on evildoers, he just doesn’t have the drive. There’s a certain level of altruism that he lacks, and James has in abundance.
Maybe that’s why Kara eventually warms to the idea of him as Guardian. She’s not totally on board yet, but acknowledging their shared calling is a big step towards accepting that despite the danger, Guardian is here to stay.
She might not be able to support James and Winn’s (Jeremy Jordan) superhero adventures, but we hope she doesn’t give up on Mon-El. He might not be hero material yet, but their adorable awkwardness and partnership is a delight to watch. If he can learn to be a hero for her, hopefully he can learn to be one without her too.
Or maybe his confession of love will be too much for either of them to deal with?

While the superfriends spent all night fighting electrically-powered bad guys, Hank (David Harewood) spent it fighting bad memories — and learning how to forgive M’gann for everything the White Martians did to his people.
His forgiveness came just in the nick of time too, since the White Martians are hunting her down for her war crimes — the fact that those “war crimes” were refusing to kill a little Green Martian boy just makes us hate these White Martians even more. We’re almost looking forward to watching the entire DEO kick some White Martian butt next week.
“Supergirl” airs Mondays at 8 p.m ET/PT on The CW.
