‘The Conjuring’ Trailer: ‘Something Awful Happened Here’

Mysterious movements in the shadows, flocks of birds drawn to a house, and whispering and rustling in the night are just a few of the classic horror movie tropes on display in the new trailer for “The Conjuring,” centered around real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.

In the movie, the Warrens, portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, are called to the home of a woman played by Lili Taylor, who claims the house is haunted. But the trailer boasts that what’s really at play in the house is “so disturbing” that the Warrens have “kept it locked away until now.”

The clip is truly creepy, especially in Farmiga’s scenes, where her wide-eyed stares convey the house’s hidden horrors. Lorraine Warren claimed to be clairvoyant, and in the trailer she somberly tells Taylor that whatever is tormenting her can’t be shaken by simply leaving the house.

“This thing has latched itself to your family,” she says.

Check out the trailer for yourself and see how many times it makes you jump. If you’re up to the thrill, the movie, directed by James Wan (of “Saw” and “Insidious” fame) hits theaters July 19.
