Before there was Natalee Holloway, there was Chandra Levy. It’s been nearly a decade since America became captivated by the disappearance of the curly-haired Capital Hill intern.
TLC is planning a made-for-TV movie based on the events surrounding Levy’s murder, The New York Post said Monday. The film will the cable network in May and will coincide with the 10th anniversary of Levy’s disappearance. Few details are known about the upcoming movie. For instance, we’re still waiting to hear who will be cast in the lead roles. It’s also still unknown whether Levy’s parents are cooperating with the making of the film.
Part political sex scandal, part missing person case, the investigation into the 24-year-old’s disappearance made headlines in the Summer of 2001 — nicknamed “Summer of Chandra” by the Washington press — after it was revealed that the daughter of an affluent California doctor had been having an affair with her employer, married Democratic Congressman Gary Condit. In Nov. 2010, a DC jury found Ingmar Guandique, an immigrant from El Salvador already twice convicted of rape, guilty of first-degree murder in Chandra’s death. Levy disappeared May 1, 2001, after she went for a walk in nearby Rock Creek Park. Her remains were found in early 2002 by a man walking his dog. Authorities Guandique tied her up and left her to die of exposure and dehydration.
