Top 3 shows coming to and leaving Netflix in September 2016
As the fall TV season gets into full swing on television, the streaming services are likewise releasing a bevy of new original shows — and putting a few older shows out to pasture. Here are the top 3 things coming to and leaving Netflix in September 2016.
Coming to Netflix
1. ‘Chef’s Table: France,’ Sept. 2
This documentary series that focuses on one world-renowned chef per episode is debuting its third season on Sept. 2. This time, the show is focusing solely on French chefs, including Alain Passard, who owns L’Arpege in Paris. It is a beautifully produced series. If you’re a foodie and you haven’t given “Chef’s Table” a look yet, now’s the time.
2. ‘Narcos,’ Season 2, Sept. 2
Following up on a successful first season, “Narcos” is back, continuing the story of notorious drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, played by Wagner Moura. The first season chronicled Escobar’s life from the late 1970s to the early 1990s. Season 2 is focusing on the events leading up to Escobar’s death, which happened in December 1993. But it won’t be two seasons and done for this show. EP Eric Newman tells Variety, “I hope there’s life for the show after Escobar.”
3. ‘Marvel’s Luke Cage,’ Sept. 30
The next of Marvel’s Defenders is punching his way onto the small screen when Luke Cage (Mike Colter) starts cleaning up New York City’s Harlem neighborhood. Netflix staple Mahershala Ali (“House of Cards”) stars opposite Colter as Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes,” and look for other Defenders faces to pop up, including Rosario Dawson.
Leaving Netflix
1. ‘Everybody Loves Raymond, Sept. 1
This long-running, 15-time Emmy winner starring Ray Romano, Patricia Heaton, Doris Roberts and Brad Garrett is leaving Netflix in September, so catch it while you can.
2. ‘Fringe,’ Sept. 11
If you’ve never seen “Fringe,” now is as good a time as any to binge it. Starring Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson and John Noble, this little sci-fi gem never got the recognition it deserved, but it was a captivating drama.
3. ‘Alias,’ Sept. 25
Ten years after it went off the air, “Alias” is leaving Netflix. But you have a whole month to watch the five-season series that catapulted Jennifer Garner to stardom.
