A White supremacist group has called for a boycott of Marvel’s eagerly-anticipated comic book blockbuster Thor in the wake of growing controversy over the casting of actor Idris Elba.

The Missouri-based Council of Conservative Citizens, a hate group with a history of promoting racist rheotic that dates back to 1985, is angry over the casting of the former Wire actor — a British-born Black — as Norse God Heimdall in the production.

“It’s not enough that Marvel attacks conservatives values, now mythological Gods must be re-invented with black skin,” group organizers wrote in an editorial posted to its website this week. “Marvel has viciously attacked the TEA Party movement, conservatives, and European heritage. Now they have taken it one further, casting a black man as a Norse deity in their new movie Thor. Marvel has now inserted social engineering into European mythology,” the statement continued.

“It seems that Marvel Studios believes that White people should have nothing that is unique to themselves. An upcoming movie, based on the comic book Thor, will give the Aesir an insulting multicultural makeover. One of the Gods will be played by Hip Hop DJ Elba.”

Elba pooh-poohed early criticism surrounding his Thor casting.

“Thor has a hammer that flies to him when he clicks his fingers. That’s okay, but the color of my skin is wrong?” he told TV Times in April.

So far, 133 people have “Liked” “Boycott Thor” on Facebook.

Thor opens in May 2011.
