We knew John Travolta was a “Dancing Machine,” but who knew the Brooklyn native also had the stuff to be a “Dapper Don?”
Tinseltown producer Marty Ingels has revealed that the Pulp Fiction star will play John Gotti in the film, TMZ.com said Tuesday. James Franco, who earned a Best Actor Oscar nod for his adventure-drama 127 Hours, is in the running to play John Gotti, Jr,.
Nick Cassavetes — whose directing credits include The Notebook and Alpha Dog — is reworking the script and will direct the film about Gotti, who headed New York City’s frightening Gambino Crime Family in New York City from 1985 until he was sentenced to life i,prisonment in 1992. The murderous Mob Boss’ penchant for escaping convictions earned him the media moniker “The Teflon Don.” It was the testimony of turncoat Sammy “The Bull” Gravano that ultimately sent Gotti to the slammer, where he died of cancer in 2002.
Gotti Sr. was last played by Armand Assante in the 1996 made-for-TV movie Gotti. The film was the highest-rated original telefilm in HBO history at the time.
