The 30-year-old player’s contract runs until the World Cup in Brazil in 2014.
“This is a very special day for Flamengo,” club president Patricia Amorim said.
Ronaldinho played in the Brazil team that won the 2002 World Cup.
He is returning to his homeland after 10 years in Europe.
His place in the AC Milan team was undermined by the club’s purchase of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Antonio Cassano.
Ronaldinho played for FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain before his stint at AC Milan.
He was chosen as world footballer of the year in 2004 and 2005.
